Dogs

barkingA dog can be a great pet; good company, loving, and fun. Some dogs however seem to bark all the time, which can quickly become annoying for an owner. Dogs do bark for a reason however, and not just for the sake of it as many people may think. They typically bark to get your attention, because they are excited or if they feel alarmed. With a little bit of time and patience, a dog owner can teach a dog that there are alternatives to barking, and slowly start getting them out of the habit.

If your dog barks and you take notice of him, he will have achieved his goal of getting your attention. If this is the main reason that your dog barks, you should try to ignore him when he starts barking. Avoid looking at the dog and giving any inkling that you have heard him bark. After a while your dog will realise that this is not the best way to get your attention, and will stop. This process may take a while however as to start with, your dog may bark all the more to get your attention. Ignore your dog and then instead pay attention to him when he has stopped. After a while, your dog will acknowledge that barking is no way to get your attention.
